The Sanctuary of the Benedictines
Today we start from the beautiful and ancient village of the Abbey of Cava de’Tirreni, and just passing in front of the millennial Benedictine Abbey, (remember that in 2011 celebrated a thousand years of history) that we enter the mythical path C.A.I. 300 Alta Via dei Lattari almost 90 km long, through all the Lattari Mountains from Cava to Punta Campanella in front of Capri.
This first stretch of path 300 will take us to the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’Avvocata above Maiori, located at an altitude of almost 1000 meters above sea level on the Amalfi Coast. The path is quite challenging, after a first part inside the beautiful woods of chestnut and oak we arrive at the source of Capo d’acqua, where we will have the opportunity to fill our bottles with pure water, then a beautiful climb will take us to Old Chapel located halfway from the shrine at an altitude of 650 meters, where we can make a small stop.
The panorama is wonderful, ranging from the city of Salerno to the entire Amalfi Coast and it’s villages.
For the return the path is the same, but on request, you can vary going down to Maiori through a path lasting an hour and a half, this variant provides a descent with a significant difference in height, for this option the return to Cava de’Tirreni is expected with the use of public transport or taxi.
